Smart seafood for

School 6th grade

In collaboration with Ungt Entreprenørskap Nordland we invite 6th grade classes to an exciting day in Blokken with practical, varied activities that are anchored in the curriculum.

SMART Seafood is based on the students being given an exciting task which they have to solve. Through an inspiring start-up day with us in Blokken and subsequent activities at school, the students will work towards a good idea that solves a real challenge related to seafood. The students will go through the entire process from idea to prototype.

On a visit to Akvakultur i Vesterålen, the students can take part in a RIB boat trip where they can visit a fish farm and learn about aquaculture. They get insight into the entire production process in salmon farming, from broodstock to fillet, through a specially designed virtual reality tour. They also get to know the biology of fish through dissecting fish. At lunch, the students have the opportunity to taste smoked salmon from our own production. All this will provide the basis for the work with SMART seafood when the students return to school.

  • Meeting point at Blokken at 10 am. – Departure approx. at 1 pm.
  • Participation is free. The school books the bus, but we will cover the travel cost.
  • The students bring their own lunch, but get to taste smoked salmon.
  • The students bring warm clothes. Wool is recommended. Hat and gloves are important.
  • The students are given all the necessary safety equipment.
  • We want to let the students have a practical day with great experiences where they get to use their senses actively, wonder and ask questions. Through this day, students will get a good basis for being able to reflect on protecting natural resources and contributing to sustainable development.
  • The starting point for the day is the parts of the curriculum's description as "Creative joy, engagement and desire to explore" and "Respect for nature and environmental awareness".
  • The activities on this day will touch the core elements in the curriculum for civics class (wonder, exploration, society critical thinking and contexts) and natural science (natural science practices and ways of thinking, technology, the Earth and life on Earth).
