In collaboration with Ungt Entreprenørskap Nordland we invite 6th grade classes to an exciting day in Blokken with practical, varied activities that are anchored in the curriculum.
SMART Seafood is based on the students being given an exciting task which they have to solve. Through an inspiring start-up day with us in Blokken and subsequent activities at school, the students will work towards a good idea that solves a real challenge related to seafood. The students will go through the entire process from idea to prototype.
On a visit to Akvakultur i Vesterålen, the students can take part in a RIB boat trip where they can visit a fish farm and learn about aquaculture. They get insight into the entire production process in salmon farming, from broodstock to fillet, through a specially designed virtual reality tour. They also get to know the biology of fish through dissecting fish. At lunch, the students have the opportunity to taste smoked salmon from our own production. All this will provide the basis for the work with SMART seafood when the students return to school.
In collaboration with Redningsselskapet(the Rescue Company), we invite the 9th graders to an exciting day in Blokken with a focus on career opportunities within the aquaculture industry and drowning prevention work with training in realistic surroundings.
The students will be trained in self-rescue and lifesaving. They receive training in the use of lifelines and lifebuoys. They will be guided into the sea with wetsuits to feel the shock of the cold water and to be trained in saving energy by floating in the water. We have full focus on safety and students are given wet suits and life jackets. All instructors are certified by the Rescue Company. The teaching here covers the competence target for physical exercise to rescue life in water out in the nature.
The students will also receive an exciting teaching program related to aquaculture especially focusing on the career opportunities available in the aquaculture industry. The overall part of the curriculum describes that students should experience nature and see it as a useful source, joy, health and learning. The day in Blokken is a day where students get close to the sea and at the same time get insight into how we make use of the resources that the sea gives us with focus on sustainability.
